TRUE COLOURS RACEDAY AND MID WINTER CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON

As the days get shorter, and the temperatures drop we all need something to look forward to, to get us through those dreary winter months. 

Our friends at Te Rapa Racing have come up with a great way to banish those winter blues and get you celebrating in style.

On the 1st July they are holding a True Colours Raceday with the chance to enjoy a Mid Winter Christmas lunch.   This is a great opportunity to get the team together and have some fun out at the races.  The new Wildtribe Catering headed up by Jeff Dunstan (ex Domaine, Fish Punk) will be serving up a beautiful  Christmas spread, as you enjoy the entertainment throughout the day.  

Tickets are now available for $120 pp which includes a food and drink package (Tables of 10)

Te Rapa Racing are also looking for businesses to sponsor the races running on the day. Enjoy naming rights of the race, onsite promotional opportunities, join the winner for a celebratory drink and nibbles, and enjoy a discounted rate for the Mid Winter Luncheon ($960 for table of 10). DIRECT GROUP UNIFORMS HAMILTON HALF MARATHON 2017

True Colours has been chosen as the charity partner for the Direct Group Uniforms Hamilton Half Marathon for this year’s race on Sunday 8th October 2017.

If 2017 is the year for you to get fit, or to achieve your goal of entering a running event, we would love it if you could join us and RUN FOR THE KIDS that we support.

You can support us in many ways:

  • When you register for the race you can choose to fundraise for True Colours through a Give a Little Page with all funds raised coming to True Colours
  • Buy a raffle ticket ($5) when you register for the race (AIRFARE FOR 2 TO AUSTRALIA AND ACCOMMODATION AT THE PENINSULAR IN MOOLOOLABA ON QUEENSLAND’S SUNSHINE COAST.) Or alternatively you can email  admin@hamiltonhalfmarathon.org.nz to purchase a ticket if you are not participating in the race.

Kerr & Ladbrook Long Lunch 2017

We are well into the planning stages of this years event.   If you are interested in attending this ‘must-attend’ event held on Melbourne Cup Day please keep an eye out on our Facebook page or email us to register your interest

KERR & LADBROOK LONG LUNCH 2016

Hundreds of people joined us at our annual fundraiser event – The Kerr & Ladbrook Long Lunch to celebrate Melbourne Cup Day in style and raise valuable funds for True Colours.

We had another amazing day with an even more amazing result, with a record breaking $100,792 raised through the event.  This result is a reflection of the fantastic support we receive for the Long Lunch  from so many businesses and individuals. The local business community really get behind this event and we are incredibly grateful and humbled by the support that we receive each year.

It is a real team effort to put together the fundraiser, from our event sponsors, auction and mystery envelope donations, to the time and energy that our fundraising committee “The Friends of True Colours” put into organising the event.

Leading the large group of sponsors that make this event possible is Kerr & Ladbrook Catering.  For the past 4 years, they have been the principal sponsor of the event dishing up a gourmet three course lunch for the 300+ crowd.  The event fits with what Kerr & Ladbrook Catering is all about: quality, professionalism and a bit of fun.  “It’s a glamorous, fun day for a very worthy cause and it’s really nice to be able to help raise a lot of money” says Lisa Kerr.  “The day has the added attraction of the Melbourne Cup which adds to the buzz on the day.

While the event is all about having a wonderful time, it’s also an opportunity for people to learn more about True Colours, why it exists and the work they do. Each year a parent is invited to speak to the crowd to give a personal insight into what it’s like to have a child with a serious health condition. This year, Sarah Verran shared her journey with her daughter Ruby speaking of her diagnosis of Craniopharyngioma, a type of brain tumour, and her rehabilitation following the removal of the tumour.

A massive THANK YOU to everyone that contributed to the success of the day, and helped us raise an amazing total, that will help us to continue to support seriously ill children and their families.

2015 Long Lunch

Hundreds of people celebrated the Melbourne Cup in wonderful fashion as part of the Long Lunch 2015, held at The Atrium, Wintec.

“The day is a wonderful example of the generosity that exists in our community”, says Long Lunch coordinator Sarah Rawcliffe.  “Through the contribution of so many businesses and individuals we are able to deliver a first class event and raise much needed funds for True Colours.”  Kerr & Ladbrook the principal sponsor of the day; served up an impressive three course lunch for the 344 guests. Long term supporters of the event, Kerr & Ladbrook gave the crowd a taste of what’s to come at their new restaurant Ember that has just recently opened.

MC Urzila Carlson with her natural, cheeky style had the crowd in stitches, and was a definite highlight of the day.   The crowd were also entertained by local band Hair of the Dog, and Dynamica Violin Duo.  A father’s perspective was given by Paul Grant, offering the audience an insight into what it’s like to have a sick child and the effect that it has on the people around them. “While people are here to enjoy a fabulous day, it’s also important that they have an understanding of True Colours, why we exist and the work that we do” says Cynthia Ward, True Colours CEO.

This year a record $91,624 was raised from the day, a great result for the community funded organisation.  The record tally was helped by a $20,000 bid for the main auction prize of the day, Neil and Tim Finn playing live in someone’s home.   “It was an amazing result, and we were thrilled to see someone bid that much for the incredibly generous gift by the Finn brothers”, said Cynthia.  “There were definitely a few misty eyes in the room, when the hammer went down on the item, as we know how much that money can assist us to help people that really need it.”

Fun Ways to Raise Funds!

Fundraising is never easy – but it can be great fun for all involved! Since 2005, the annual True Colours Melbourne Cup Long Lunch has been a lively reflection of outstanding community generosity, from sponsors and participants alike. And, among the many events held on behalf of True Colours, there have been monster garage sales, quiz nights, art exhibitions, outdoor challenges, fashion shows and the Finn Brothers in concert – all designed to help enhance the quality of life for  children with serious illness and their families.

There are many ways that you can help True Colours raise funds. If you have an idea or an event that you would like to nominate True Colours as a recipient of, please download our Event Proposal Form and send it in to us so we can chat further.
