When the lights dim at Riverlea Theatre, Hamilton on Tuesday 12 August it will be for a very special reason.
The evening’s performance of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ is a charity one for True Colours Children’s Health Trust.
True Colours provides counselling, nurse care and education for children who are seriously ill or living with a life-limiting illness, their siblings, family and whanau. The charity receives no government funding and is reliant solely on community funding.
Jenni Murphy-Scanlon, a strategic consultant to True Colours, who is the production manager for Little Shop of Horrors said the cast were really looking forward to the evening, which would also include a lucky ticket draw.
“We always enjoy entertaining the audience, particularly with a show like Little Shop of Horrors, but being able to perform in a show where all profits go to charity makes it extra special,” she said.
Cynthia Ward, nurse specialist and CEO of True Colours Children’s Health Trust, said the True Colours team, including some of the families currently being cared for, were looking forward to the evening. “We use a lot of art and music therapy in our work so to have a performance of Little Shop of Horrors dedicated to True Colours is really fitting. We’re extremely grateful to everyone involved as the proceeds we receive will be of great value to the children we care for.”
True Colours celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and to date has cared for over 1,000 children in the greater Waikato region.
