Katie Duncan is an amazing young woman who has worked hard to be at the top of her sporting career in the Football Ferns. For 10 years she has played for the Ferns and is heading off to play at the Rio Olympics. Katie knows what it is like to push through personal challenges and to live beyond tragedy; however, getting her head shaved on Wednesday is taking all of her courage. Katie has realised that while she is used to pushing herself hard, and driven with a passion to do well in her sports, she has sometimes been held back by her self-doubt and fear.
Katie is aware of the many children who live with complex health conditions and their families who face huge fear and anxiety every day. Katie wants to confront her own fears, while at the same time providing support for families cared for by True Colours. These families know what it is like to ‘push through your fear and do it anyway’ and while we are inspired by Katie, she also is inspired by the courage of the children and families at True Colours.
We salute Katie as she takes time out of her busy training and preparation schedules for Rio, to raise the profile of True Colours, while also raising funds. She is a true legend and we wish her and the Ferns well as they are up against other skilled football teams from around the world. We appreciate the support of Katie… and we support her in return… to let go of her hair and let go of her fear.
For those of you following Katie and would like to support her, she will be at Morph Hair, 4 Tennyson Rd, Enderley, Hamilton on the 13th July to have her head shaved at 12.00.
